Scholarships

The Metro-Jackson Alumni Chapter of Alcorn State University (ASU) Incorporated has long been a proponent of academic excellence as evidenced by its generous financial donations to ALCORN bound students.

This year, the chapter is preparing to award Four (4) scholarships:

  • 1st place academic scholarship – $2,000,
  • 2nd place academic scholarship – $1,500,
  • 3rd place Emma Maxine Simpson JAM book scholarship – $1000, and
  • 4th place Metro-Jackson Alumni Chapter book scholarship – $500.

They will be awarded to high school seniors in the metro Jackson area (Madison, Hinds and Rankin counties) who have demonstrated excellence in academic, achievement, leadership, and service.

The scholarship application, scholarship criteria, and the scholarship scoring rubric are included in this package.

All high school seniors interested in applying for the Metro-Jackson Alcorn Alumni Chapter, Inc. 2022 scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must complete graduation requirements outlined by the Mississippi Department of Education.
  2. Must be a graduate of a high school in the Metro Jackson (Madison, Hinds & Rankin Counties) area.
  3. Have a grade point average of 2.50 or above on a 4.0 grading scale, or a 3.50 on a 5.00 grading scale.
  4. Have been actively involved in extra curricular and community activities.
  5. Have been ACCEPTED for admission to Alcorn State University.

Application Procedures:

  1. Complete pages 4, 5, and 6.
  2. Provide a 7th Semester Official Transcript showing composite GPA signed by the school’s counselor or stamped with the school’s seal plus ACT or SAT test scores.
  3. Provide a recent photo of yourself for publication and complete the release form on page 7.
  4. Provide acceptance letter from ASU.

Application deadline is: March 11, 2023

SELECTION: The Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipients. All decisions are based solely on academic excellence as indicated by test scores, grade point average, quality of written expression, student’s involvement, and in accordance with the criteria for this award.

AWARD NOTIFICATION: All Awardees will RECEIVE an AWARD LETTER by EMAIL on April 22, 2022. A MOCK CHECK will be presented to Awardees on high school Award, Class or Senior Day/Night OR at the Renaissance at Colony Park’s water fountain off I-55 north in Ridgeland, MS during May 2022. The 1st and 2nd place academic scholarship winners will also be invited to our regular Metro Jackson Alumni Chapter Meeting on May 5, 2023.

MONETARY AWARDS will be presented to Awardees or their parents, when proper documentation is received verifying that awardees have completed registration and are OFFICIALLY enrolled at Alcorn State University, no later than our regular Metro Jackson Alumni Chapter Meeting on September 1, 2023.
